TOD-Reimagined: Reimagining Sustainable Mobility in TOD Areas of Pune – A national-level design competition organised by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) with support from the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) to promote innovative and scalable solutions for sustainable mobility in Pune.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN:

The UrbanShift Country Project, NIUA, in collaboration with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), is organising a national-level design competition titled “TOD-Reimagined: Reimagining Sustainable Mobility in Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Areas of Pune”.

The competition crowdsources innovative, implementable design by bring locals’ perspectives into city-level governance, ensuring that TOD in Pune is not merely a top-down planning f ramework but a dynamic, contextual, and citizen-led transformation.

The competition looks beyond concepts – focusing on feasibility, institutional readiness, f inancial sustainability, and long-term impact, aligned with SDGs, NDCs, Mission LiFE, and climate-sensitive urban development.

COMPETITION COMPONENTS

The design competition invites participants to envision new possibilities for reimagining and enhancing Pune’s TOD areas. The design proposal will focus on various aspects that can drive the city towards a sustainable mobility ecosystem

This competition celebrates creativity at every level. To recognise outstanding innovation and effort, cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries

First prize – INR 1,00,000
Second prize – INR 50,000
Third prize – INR 20,000

Every idea matters – all participants will receive certif icates of recognition for contributing to a citizen-led vision of sustainable mobility.

WHAT DID WE DO !

An initiative to connect grassroots innovation with city-level governance by inviting ideas that reimagine sustainable mobility in Pune's TOD areas through inclusive and climate-sensitive solutions.

Extended deadline: February 15, 2026

The competition was promoted through the off icial channels of NIUA and PMC, ensuring wide outreach and participation across diverse stakeholder groups.

EVALUATION MATRIX

All entries evaluated on the basis of innovation/ creativity but also for adoption of sustainable mobility principles, feasibility & implementation, and f inancial viability (incl. revenue potential), ensuring a balanced mix of visionary ideas, implementable and scalable solutions.

INTERACTIONS

IN 1^ST ROUND OF EVALUATION AND SHORTLISTING PROCESS, OUT OF 22 ENTRIES , 8 WERE SHORT LISTED. THEY WERE ASKED TO PRESENT THEIR PROPOSALS ON , APRIL 16, 2026)

IN 2^ND ROUND OF EVALUATION AND SHORTLISTING PROCESS, THE SELECTED 5 HAD A DISCUSSION WITH THE OFFICALS BEFORE THE FINAL ROUND ON , MAY 12 -13, 2026)
