The UrbanShift Country Project at the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), with technical support from Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC), organised a Capacity Building Workshop on 'TOD-Reimagined: Reimagining Sustainable Mobility in Transit-Oriented Development Areas' under the UrbanShift Country Project.

The workshop also marked the launch of the e-course on the Guidelines for Transit Influence Area Planning. The event witnessed participation from approximately 100 officials and stakeholders across seven Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) cities and brought together urban practitioners, planners, policymakers, researchers, academicians, professional organisations, and community representatives. The workshop provided an opportunity for peer-to-peer learning through sessions on integrated land use and transport planning, Transit Influence Area Planning, gender and mobility, and sustainable urban development.

The discussions highlighted the importance of Transit-Oriented Development in creating compact, connected, walkable, and inclusive urban environments. The sessions emphasised the need for integrated planning around transit systems, where people can live, work, and access opportunities with minimal reliance on private vehicles. These approaches underscore the pivotal role of Transit-Oriented Development in not only improving mobility but also fostering inclusive, climate-responsive, and vibrant communities.

The workshop also featured presentations by finalists of the 'TOD-Reimagined: Reimagining Sustainable Mobility in TOD Areas of Pune' Design Competition, showcasing innovative and implementable ideas for sustainable mobility and TOD implementation. These activities created opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and cross-learning, paving the way for more sustainable, inclusive, and connected urban futures.
