Events Details
The event witnessed participation from 120 officials from 20 organisations across 7 Transit Oriented Development (TOD) cities and brought together urban practitioners, planners, policymakers, researchers and academicians. The workshop provided an opportunity for peer-to-peer learning with exclusive sessions on demystifying the concept of TOD, gender inclusivity and universal accessibility.
These Guidelines promote integrated planning around transit systems, where people can live, work, and access services with minimal reliance on private vehicles. These approaches highlight the pivotal role of transit-oriented planning is not just improving transportation, but connecting people, places and possibilities by creating inclusive, compact, and vibrant communities.
A key highlight of the workshop was a table top exercise where participants were engaged in groups to delineate TOD influence areas around selected metro stations. Using these guidelines, each group mapped pedestrian and cycling routes and identified gaps in the existing road network. This hands-on activity empowered cities with sustainable development strategies. It created opportunities for cross-learning, paving the way for a greener and more connected urban future.
This workshop is the first in the series of capacity-building endeavours envisioned under the UrbanShift Country Project. Stay tuned for more inspiring initiatives focused on inclusive planning, sustainable mobility, and building better urban futures
